The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional league for Twenty20 cricket competition in India. It is currently contested by nine teams, consisting of players from around the world. It was started after an altercation between the BCCI and the now defunct Indian Cricket League (ICL). The IPL became the first sporting event ever to be broadcast live on YouTube in association with Indiatimes.

The IPL has become one of the biggest sporting spectacles in the world, broadcasting to audiences of 145 million last year in India itself and capturing large global audiences across all continents including Australia, USA and across the Middle East.
